I am a Special Education Teacher in Hot Springs, Arkansas. I spent most of my teaching career with KIPP Austin Public Schools. Past roles include teaching in elementary resource special education, high school inclusion, and high school self contained settings. I began my career in education as a literacy interventionist with AmeriCorps and was an at-home ABA therapist for students with Autism.
I was the founding teacher for a high school self contained program. The goal for this program was to develop a high quality program for high school students with significant disabilities that allow them to create a life of their choice by providing them rigorous academic content, meaningful life skills, social skills, and vocational skills. The program is called GAIN (Gaining Academics and Independence Inclusively). I also supported developing 18+ programming options for students who would like to continue preparing for transition beyond the traditional four years of high school.
